Yes, his character is energetic and youthful. Yes, he does tend to take things a little less seriously than his brothers. Yes, he is a prankster, a live wire, and a wise guy.
No, he is NOT stupid!
Do you hear me Nickelodeon? Michelangelo is not stupid. If you want to make me happy again, stop running those asinine commercials comparing Patrick to Mikey on the brainless meter.
The character of Michelangelo was not created to be stupid. He is not part of a tough ninja team who has had to survive their entire lives on their wits and talents just to be your path to a cheap laugh.
There will now be an entire generation of kiddos who will think that Michelangelo is an idiot and that if it weren’t for his brothers he’d be dead. Mikey is friggin’ SMART people; he is sharp, witty, intelligent, resourceful, insightful, quick, talented, agile, strong, and tough as a nail.
Please, please do me a favor Turtle fans – if you do nothing else, could you please read some of the original comics? Or watch a few episodes of the 2k3 version of the cartoon because it sticks more closely to the original characters from the comics.
Michelangelo is a beautiful character who does not deserve to be mutilated by Nickelodeon. He is my muse and I love him. I will defend his true character and personality with my last breath.
I saw this video earlier this year. Nick decided to compare Patrick and Mikey in "the Battle of the Brains" m.youtube.com/watch?v=rfV2yu79… and it angered me.
I watched the season 2 premiere and I was disappointed with what they did to Mikey. His stupidity was absolutely annoying. It wasn't even funny. The "cottage cheese monster" and "talking cupcakes" lines were absolutely annoying. He seemed so stupid to the point of being useless. Because he didn't understand what was going on half the time. I don't understand how some fans find it funny and cute. Him being naive, innocent, and immature is funny and cute. That doesn't mean he's stupid.
It's a bummer that the show degraded Mikey's intelligence to the point of being cringe-worthy. Because I kind of like the character design of 2012 Mikey. I like that he's the shortest, has blue eyes, freckles, ect. Greg Cipes did a good job with his voice.. And there are moments where Mikey's innocence and naivety translates into something good. Like when he befriended Leatherhead. But other than that, his stupidity is too much.
I would thoroughly enjoy Mikey's ebullient behavior so much more if they didn't feel the need to explain it by having him be stupid. A bubbly personality doesn't automatically mean that someone is a halfwit, which seems to be what Nick is trying to say.
Just when I see an episode where they seem to be allowing his character more growth, they slip back into the 'Mikey is slapstick humor' mold. I want a three-dimensional Michelangelo, not a character who has been relegated to the role of everyone's idea of a joke.
well someone had too say it and it really irks me too cause *rant start* originally mikey is the most talented of the turtle (excepted for his lack of focus) and it really bugs me too that raph is ALWAYS angry or that leo has no idea what his doing or... or *sigh* ya know what I just don't like how ANY of them are depicted in the nick version. And it bugs me even more that the storys are actually good!!!*rant end*
Well I think I've said all I have to say hehe *sweat drop*.
but good point!
I could rant on the subject of how Raph is always made out to be a brute who never thinks anything through and that isn't true either. Humor is a great thing, but not at the expense of making a character stupid in order to get a laugh. I want to see character growth more than anything, which means I want them all to get better and cut out the inconsistencies.
Thank you! I think if each of them didn't have both a heart and a mind they'd be dead - that's just logic.
and poor donnie.. i always had a picture of donnie as the sweet level-headed one.. but now he's more dorky then ever.. and dosn't have that sweet impression to him anymore.. at least for me it feels like that
also the episode 'mousers attack' .. what's with the roles! they pointed that mike and don are the side-kicks to leo and raph.. for me they all had the same role even if leo was the leader.. don and mike are not side-kicks! it just didn't feel right..
also april.. 'sigh' i don't like her being a teenager like the guys.. she was way more cooler when she was older.. like a big sister and all now she's .. she's.. a teenager!!!!!.. not like the cool older april that go around helping the guys by hacking a system or driving a hilocopter or even letting them stay in her apartment if there was a foot clan wondering the sewers looking for the turtles.. ahh good old april.. but i guess i'll give this one a chance .. though i don't like the idea of donnie having a stupid crush on her ..
p.s. sorry for any spelling mistakes
And what they've done to Donatello. He is witty and sarcastic, gentle and caring. He is not a snarky, blow hard, know-it-all. He certainly wouldn't trip over his own tongue if he met a girl he liked - there were certainly plenty of girls in the 2k3 series who related to him quite easily. And I too prefer the older sister vibe of the previous April.
*sigh* I'll probably watch the show 'cause I need my turtle fix, but I'm not going to be rushing to the TV to see it.
Lord, and it was doing so well . . .
I was just waiting for the episode like Kluh, I really was.
I really enjoyed the 2k7 movie, but i felt that both Mikey and Donnie were overseen and "ignored," just focusing on the LeoxRaph fight. Really annoying, but at least they didnt make him look stupid or reckless, which ive noticed theyve done ALOT in the Nick-series. They dont just ignore him, but as you said, completely mess up his awesome personality.
He was a fun-loving prankster, and often showed a creativity and understanding his brothers always lacked. He wasnt a genious like Donnie, but definently very clever in all other ways, especially dealing with people. I would call him a "social genious" he also had a lot of talents and abilities, and are the turtle with the most potential and skill in Ninjitsu. I also believe him to have his "wise-guy" image just as a facade, his way of dealing with ditress and problems, and that could be considered very smart! he cheered up his bros and made many situations less hard to solve. Seriously, without him, the team would fall apart. And his bros know this! Sometimes they forget, but deep inside, they could NEVER go on without him. So, i would like this new generation to know him as well, as the witty genious he really is.
Not as a stupid hold-back.
