You know, if Nick was actually trying to piss me off, they couldn’t possibly do a better job! I have been gritting my teeth as I watch the new show because it is very cute and entertaining, but I have a real problem with how they are portraying Michelangelo.

Yes, his character is energetic and youthful. Yes, he does tend to take things a little less seriously than his brothers. Yes, he is a prankster, a live wire, and a wise guy.

No, he is NOT stupid! :rage:

Do you hear me Nickelodeon? Michelangelo is not stupid. If you want to make me happy again, stop running those asinine commercials comparing Patrick to Mikey on the brainless meter. :(

The character of Michelangelo was not created to be stupid. He is not part of a tough ninja team who has had to survive their entire lives on their wits and talents just to be your path to a cheap laugh.

There will now be an entire generation of kiddos who will think that Michelangelo is an idiot and that if it weren’t for his brothers he’d be dead. Mikey is friggin’ SMART people; he is sharp, witty, intelligent, resourceful, insightful, quick, talented, agile, strong, and tough as a nail.

Please, please do me a favor Turtle fans – if you do nothing else, could you please read some of the original comics? Or watch a few episodes of the 2k3 version of the cartoon because it sticks more closely to the original characters from the comics.

Michelangelo is a beautiful character who does not deserve to be mutilated by Nickelodeon. He is my muse and I love him. I will defend his true character and personality with my last breath.   :tmnt3:

I'm sorry for being late at replying to this journal but....

THANK YOU!

I saw this video earlier this year. Nick decided to compare Patrick and Mikey in "the Battle of the Brains" m.youtube.com/watch?v=rfV2yu79… and it angered me.

I watched the season 2 premiere and I was disappointed with what they did to Mikey. His stupidity was absolutely annoying. It wasn't even funny. The "cottage cheese monster" and "talking cupcakes" lines were absolutely annoying. He seemed so stupid to the point of being useless. Because he didn't understand what was going on half the time. I don't understand how some fans find it funny and cute. Him being naive, innocent, and immature is funny and cute. That doesn't mean he's stupid.

It's a bummer that the show degraded Mikey's intelligence to the point of being cringe-worthy. Because I kind of like the character design of 2012 Mikey. I like that he's the shortest, has blue eyes, freckles, ect. Greg Cipes did a good job with his voice.. And there are moments where Mikey's innocence and naivety translates into something good. Like when he befriended Leatherhead. But other than that, his stupidity is too much.

I would thoroughly enjoy Mikey's ebullient behavior so much more if they didn't feel the need to explain it by having him be stupid.  A bubbly personality doesn't automatically mean that someone is a halfwit, which seems to be what Nick is trying to say.

Just when I see an episode where they seem to be allowing his character more growth, they slip back into the 'Mikey is slapstick humor' mold. I want a three-dimensional Michelangelo, not a character who has been relegated to the role of everyone's idea of a joke.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou!! So true, and I TOTALLY agree. He is and always has been my favorite of the four for the very reasons you've mentioned, and it honestly irritates the "shell" out of me that they have done this to him in the new show. This is NOT how he should be portrayed! He's NOT an idiot, not stupid or slow by ANY means. He's impish and a jokester and prankster, laid-back and fun-loving, to be sure, and lacks focus much of the time- but I think that's more because he truly DOES NOT CARE about being a ninja- he'd rather do his own thing and follow his own path, but feels obligated (or trapped) into the life and path that Splinter chose for them as kids.

I think Mikey might also be just a bit bored as well. It's like being in a class where you immediately understand what the teacher is trying to tell you to do, but then you have to sit there for an entire week listening to the teacher explain the same thing over and over to the other kids.  Mikey is incredibly gifted and having to wait for his brothers to perfect a move probably bores him to tears.

True dat! That, and his short attention-span probably cause much mind-wandering, too, LOL! But I think the boredom might also be caused in part by that very lack of interest. He's gifted athletically, and knows it, but feels little desire to develop the skills that Splinter- and Leo- seem to value so highly. He just doesn't see the point to it, because his mind and heart are on other things. I've always seen him as the LEAST concerned with training and practicing for htat very reason. He's a dreamer, creative and idealistic. All traits which have no place in the strict discipline and regimented life they live. And I think he feels constrained by that life, forced by circumstance into being something he truly cares little for. But that's just my two coppers.

This is exactly why I say that Leo's true opposite is Mikey, not Raph. Raph may argue about certain decisions, but he has the same drive that Leo has, the same desire to be the best, the same goal to protect the family and be a warrior above all else. Where Leo is very traditional, Mikey is more Americanized. Where Leo spends hours practicing, Mikey spends them playing video games. It is enormously fascinating!

well someone had too say it and it really irks me too cause *rant start* originally mikey is the most talented of the turtle (excepted for his lack of focus) and it really bugs me too that raph is ALWAYS angry or that leo has no idea what his doing or... or *sigh* ya know what I just don't like how ANY of them are depicted in the nick version. And it bugs me even more that the storys are actually good!!!*rant end*

Well I think I've said all I have to say hehe *sweat drop*.

but good point!

I read somewhere in all the Nick literature on the TMNT that 2k12 Master Splinter considers Mikey to be the most talented of his sons. So if they say it on their website and fan forums, why don't they show it in the cartoon itself? It is canon for Mikey to be the most agile and gifted of the brothers, for him to have incredible insight and massive amounts of skill. He is not a 'B' team turtle - if anything he would be running circles around his brothers. *takes a deep cleansing breath*

Yeah I have too! And the A/B team thing is so demeaning cause I mean there is the fact that mikey is the most agile and gifted but also donnie is defiantly the smartest but also calmest/level headed (except when itvcomes to april) of all of them!! (No mater how hard leo tries). And I almost get the feeling that nick thinks that leo isn't the best choice for leader. Although that might just be me.
